Tell us we are wrong about something

A prosthetist who has seen users abandon a device knows more than a roadmap does. So do users, clinicians, engineers, and investors who ask a hard question. The form below opens your email client, addressed to the founder.

FAQ

Questions, answered plainly

Is this a medical device?

No. The app and the Deterica Kit are a demonstration and a training tool. Neither is a medical device, and nothing on this site or in the app claims a therapeutic, rehabilitative, or diagnostic benefit.

Can I buy a prosthetic hand from you today?

No, and nothing else here is on sale either. The hand is not for sale. The kit is in development, and it is not for sale. The app is built, and it is not in the App Store yet. What exists today is the control, and it runs. Write to us and we will tell you when any of it changes.

Who can use this control method?

It needs a preserved rotation of the residual limb, because that rotation is the input. A prosthetist is the right person to say whether a particular limb has it.

Why is the app useful with no kit?

Because the control model is the thing worth judging, and the app runs the same logic. A lever and two buttons on the screen behave as the kit behaves, so a person sees proportional control and grip selection at work. That is the point of building the app first: nobody spends money or months on hardware, on a kit or on a hand, to find out what the principle does. The app answers that on a phone, and it is free.

Is the control logic open?

Not at present. The control library, the firmware, and the app are private. If you have a research or a teaching use for them, write to us and describe it.
